Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division is preparing for another season of Boating Basics and License Courses, offering free, hands-on classes at locations statewide. These courses provide essential training for new and experienced boaters, ensuring safety on Alabama’s waterways.
Each year, ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division hosts these interactive sessions, allowing participants to engage directly with Marine Patrol Troopers while learning key information about local waterway regulations and safety practices.
Participants who complete the Boating Basics course will receive a certificate in the mail once their information is processed by ALEA’s Driver License Division. The vessel class will then be added to their Alabama Driver License. Processing may take up to 10 business days before individuals can update their Alabama Driver License online or in person at their county probate office.
Alabama law allows children as young as 12 years old to obtain a vessel operator’s license, but they cannot operate alone until the age of 14.
A one-time application fee of $5 in cash is required, along with a $36.25 issuance fee for the license.
For details on course schedules and enrollment, participants can contact the Marine Patrol Instructor listed on the official schedule.
