Calhoun County, AL – Slaton’s pitching, Hunt’s power push Alexandria to area victory. Jackson, Smith-Lindsey and Tims-Becerra power Oxford to 18 runs. Ranburne, Spring Garden and Wellborn victorious in baseball.
Pressley Slaton pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Alexandria’s softball team beat Cherokee County 7-1 in a Class 4A, Area 12 game improved to 7-2 while winning in area play.
The Valley Cubs improved to 7-2.
Allyssa Hunt hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to make it 7-1. BooBoo Bright had a single, an RBI and scored a run, and Charlee Parris went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Cali Hess doubled and scored a run.
Cherokee County’s Brooklynn Bruce doubled and scored a run, and Kaylee Lewis singled with an RBI.
OXFORD 18, PIEDMONT 1: Oxford’s Jayla Jackson went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, five RBIs and a run, and she pitched all six innings, allowing three hits with seven strikeouts.
Tymeria Smith-Lindsey went 4-for-5 with two triples, five RBIs and three runs, and Emma Tims-Becerra went 4-for-6 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs.
Haleigh Pruitt went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Madison Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double and a run, and Jordyn Alexander had a double and scored a run.
Cadence Kennedy went 2-for-5 with three runs, and Sophia Ledbetter was 1-for-3 with three runs.
Piedmont’s Cacey Brothers had a single and a run, and Anna Hase had an RBI.
Baseball
RANBURNE 3, OHATCHEE 1: Ranburne’s Rance Merrill allowed three hits and no earned runs with five strikeouts over six innings, and Lane Benefield pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
James Ward had a single and two RBIs, and Owen Henderson had a single and an RBI.
Ohatchee’s Xavier Luna pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and one earned run with 10 strikeouts over seven innings. He also had a single, as did Ethan Jones, Brayden Collins and Elijah Martin.
SPRING GARDEN 16, VALLEY HEAD 1: Spring Garden’s Hayes Garmon went 1-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs.
Connor Bates went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Clayton Sadler was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
Joel Hunter went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Zane Edwards was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Grey Simpson added a single, an RBI and a run, and leadoff hitter Jonathan Baker was 3-for-3 with three runs.
Garmon, Sadler and Bates combined to hold Valley Head to two hits. Garmon got the win, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts over seven innings.
WELLBORN 5, FAITH CHRISTIAN 3: Wellborn tied the game when Jackson Clark reached on a run-scoring error in the top of the seventh inning and won it with two runs in the eighth.
A run scored when Dozer Hayes reached on an error, and Ashton Woodard singled home Hayes.
Woodard finished 2-for-5, and Wellborn got an RBI apiece from Sawyer Thomas and Tanner Ingram. Woodard also got the win, allowing no hits or runs with one strikeout in one inning of relief.
Faith got a single and RBI apiece from Jayden Smith and Levi Wells, and Tanner Smith had an RBI.
