Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall Urges Congress to Pass Nationwide E15 Gasoline Legislation

Attorney General Marshall Urges Congress to Support Year-Round E15 and Unleash American Energy Greatness

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has joined a coalition of states in urging Congress to pass bipartisan legislation that would secure nationwide access to year-round E15 gasoline. The proposed bill, the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act of 2025, aims to provide equal access to E15 fuel across all states, benefiting both consumers and ethanol producers.

Currently, only eight states have permanent access to year-round E15 gasoline, creating disparities in fuel availability and complicating production for farmers and ethanol manufacturers. States supporting the bill argue that a uniform national policy will eliminate inefficiencies caused by the need to produce two separate fuel blends.

“Ensuring nationwide access to year-round E15 gasoline is a critical step toward strengthening America’s energy independence. President Trump’s leadership made clear that biofuels play a key role in securing our energy future, and it’s time for Congress to act. By passing this legislation, we can provide stability for producers, expand consumer choice, and unleash the full potential of American energy,” said Attorney General Steve Marshall.

On his first day in office, former President Donald Trump signed an executive order expanding access to E15 gasoline, emphasizing its role in advancing U.S. energy independence. He also established the National Energy Dominance Council to promote the use of national resources, including biofuels.

A group of states, led by Iowa, have called on Congress to enact a permanent legislative solution for year-round E15 access. Alabama has joined this initiative alongside Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia.

Application

Supporters of the bill argue that expanded E15 access will benefit both consumers and producers by lowering fuel costs, increasing market stability, and reducing reliance on foreign energy sources. However, opponents have raised concerns about potential infrastructure costs and environmental impacts associated with wider E15 use.

The bill now awaits consideration in Congress, where lawmakers will weigh its potential economic and environmental effects. If passed, the legislation would create a consistent national standard for E15 gasoline, potentially reshaping the landscape of American fuel policy.
