OXFORD, AL – During the Oxford City Council meeting held on May 27, 2025, Tom Dixon, executive director of the Health Care Authority of Oxford, was present to accept a donation of 25 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The devices, purchased by the City Council, will be strategically placed in public venues, facilities, and other city buildings as determined by Oxford’s designated AED coordinator.
An AED is a portable medical device used to analyze a person’s heart rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electric shock to help restore a normal heartbeat during sudden cardiac arrest. Quick access to AEDs has been shown to significantly improve survival rates in emergency situations.
According to the terms of a formal agreement between the City of Oxford and the Health Care Authority, ownership of the AEDs will be transferred to the Authority. Oxford Health Systems will be responsible for maintaining the devices over a five-year period. This includes monthly inspections, supply replenishment, and any required maintenance.
The collaboration reflects a joint commitment between municipal leaders and health officials to strengthen emergency medical response efforts and safeguard community health across Oxford.
