WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), along with the full Alabama Congressional delegation, has introduced a resolution commemorating the 65th anniversary of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and reaffirming support for the Center’s mission and workforce.

Founded on July 1, 1960, MSFC began when approximately 4,000 employees from the Army Ballistic Missile Agency at Redstone Arsenal transferred to NASA. Simultaneously, NASA assumed control of around 1,900 acres, officially establishing the Center in Huntsville, AL. Since then, MSFC has led the development of every NASA rocket designed to transport humans into space and has remained at the forefront of propulsion technology, materials science, and advanced manufacturing.

In remarks supporting the resolution, Senator Britt emphasized MSFC’s legacy and its role in the future of American space exploration. “The U.S. space program is vitally important, and Alabama and MSFC continue to play an integral role in redefining the boundaries of human imagination and the heights of human achievement,” she said. “I will continue to ensure that this groundbreaking work is supported now and long into the future.”

Representative Dale Strong (AL-05), who led the resolution in the House, referred to MSFC as a “pillar of North Alabama,” highlighting its historic and ongoing role in programs ranging from Apollo to the Space Launch System.
