Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the opening of the application process for the 2025 Alabama Safe Schools Initiative Awards, aimed at recognizing and promoting best practices in school safety across the state. Schools have until Friday, August 15, 2025, to submit applications.
The Safe Schools Initiative Awards program highlights schools that demonstrate outstanding safety measures, strong collaboration with law enforcement, and innovative approaches to student protection. Each year, schools are evaluated based on key safety criteria to encourage continued development and sharing of successful safety strategies statewide.
“There is nothing more important than protecting the health and safety of our children, especially while they are in school,” stated Attorney General Marshall. He emphasized the role of the program in fostering partnerships and spotlighting safety innovation across Alabama communities.
The 2025 awards will follow a four-phase application and review process, with evaluations conducted by independent judges who bring real-world school safety experience. Criteria will include preparedness and training, coordination with emergency response agencies, engagement of school resource officers or equivalent personnel, implementation of safety technologies, and broader community involvement in prevention education.
The initiative aims to encourage proactive measures and reinforce a culture of safety in Alabama schools as they prepare for the new academic year.
