OXFORD — Oxford’s defense sought to prove itself after two rough weeks to open the season Friday.
Maddox Mims’ shrugoff and rebound happened within the game.
Mims rebounded from an early interception to pass for 103 yards and three touchdowns, and Oxford’s starting defense pitched a shutout as the Yellow Jackets downed visiting Shades Valley 45-7 to open Class 6A, Region 6 play on Lamar Field.
Oxford (1-2), which began the season with several new starters, rebounded after season-opening losses to Central-Carrollton and Moody.
