Jacksonville, AL – For the fifth year in a row, Jacksonville State University (Jax State) has achieved record-breaking enrollment, reaching a milestone long anticipated by the institution. This fall, the university officially surpassed 10,000 students for the first time in its history, enrolling 10,339 students.
The total reflects a 3.9% increase from last year’s record enrollment of 9,955, adding 384 new students—the largest single-year growth in the university’s recent upward trajectory. Jax State’s enrollment growth has been consistent since 2021, when the university reported 9,540 students. Each subsequent year has shown progress: 9,633 in 2022, 9,672 in 2023, and 9,955 in 2024.
“The growth we celebrate today is the result of a true team effort,” said President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. “Our entire campus has been working collaboratively, which played a huge part in pushing us past this historic benchmark. This achievement reflects the collective strength of the entire Gamecock community.”
The milestone positions Jax State as one of the fastest-growing institutions in the region. University leaders say surpassing 10,000 students brings new opportunities for growth and recognition.
“By surpassing 10,000 students, we are breaking the glass ceiling on a milestone that elevates Jacksonville State into a new conversation as an institution, opening doors to new opportunities,” Dr. Killingsworth added. “This moment marks the beginning of an even more exciting chapter for our university.”
Applications for admission are now open for Spring 2026 and Fall 2026. As part of Free Application Week, prospective students can apply without paying the usual fee through September 14 by using the code FALL4JAX. The university will also host two Fall Preview Days this semester—on Wednesday, October 15, and Saturday, November 15.
