MONTGOMERY — Calhoun County youth made a strong showing at the Alabama National Fair’s Youth Swine Show on October 12, earning top honors in multiple categories during the event sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation and Alfa Insurance.

In the Senior Showmanship division (ages 16–19), Dalton Fink placed third and Luke Smallwood finished fourth. The competition highlighted participants’ skills in presenting and handling livestock, with other winners including Alyx Johnson of Randolph County (first), Travis Smith of St. Clair County (second), and Addison Payne of Randolph County (fifth).

In the Intermediate Showmanship division (ages 13–15), Abigail Cone of Calhoun County placed fourth. The event tested exhibitors’ ability to demonstrate control, composure, and animal presentation in the ring.

Calhoun County also celebrated strong results in the Senior Premier Exhibitor competition, which evaluates livestock knowledge, evaluation skills, and showmanship ability. Dalton Fink secured third place overall in this statewide contest.

Exhibitors from Calhoun County also earned high honors in breed and overall categories. KateLynn Dummar exhibited the Reserve Supreme Champion Gilt—also named Commercial Champion—while Abigail Cone showed the Champion Duroc Purebred Gilt. Both were recognized by judge Kole Sutton of Oklahoma.

These results reflect the dedication of local youth involved in agricultural programs and underscore the strength of Calhoun County’s livestock community.
