Anniston, AL – The Half Naked Half (and Quarter) Marathon is scheduled to take place Saturday, January 10, with the race beginning at 8 a.m. The event, held annually in Anniston, features both a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a quarter marathon and is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.
The race’s distinctive name and “stripped down” theme reflect its early beginnings, though organizers emphasize that participants are not required to run half-naked. Over the years, the event has grown while maintaining its original character.
This year, both the half and quarter marathon races will be chip timed. The half marathon course is certified and will count as an official time. Age group awards will be presented for both races, with categories divided into 10-year age groups.
All half marathon finishers will receive a finisher medal, and all quarter and half marathon participants will receive a long-sleeve race T-shirt. To be guaranteed a T-shirt, participants must be registered at least four weeks prior to race day. Shirts will be available for pickup on race day only, though another runner may collect a shirt on a participant’s behalf if necessary.
The course follows a 13.1-mile out-and-back route and will close at 11 a.m. Participants remaining on the course after that time will continue at their own discretion.
The event is open to participants of all ages, with no minimum age requirement. Minors must be registered online by a parent or legal guardian. Organizers strongly discourage the use of earbuds, as roads will remain open to traffic, and participants are expected to remain aware of their surroundings.
Bicycles, in-line skates, pets, and other non-official wheeled vehicles are prohibited for registered runners. Service animals may be considered with proper documentation submitted prior to the race. Strollers with infants are permitted, provided participants start at the back of the race pack and remain courteous to other runners.
Members of the Anniston Runners Club and Gadsden Runners Club are eligible for a $3 discount on registration.
