ANNISTON, AL — The City of Anniston held a town hall meeting this week led by Councilwoman Erica Tolson, bringing residents together with city leadership to discuss ongoing concerns and share updates on municipal services and priorities.
The meeting was designed as an open forum, encouraging residents to speak directly with city officials about issues affecting their neighborhoods. Councilwoman Tolson opened the discussion by emphasizing the importance of respectful dialogue, collaboration, and community involvement as the city works toward long-term improvements.
City Manager officials and department representatives provided updates on recent leadership changes, noting that much of the city’s administrative team is relatively new. Officials highlighted efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and responsiveness, particularly through the city’s online work order system and direct public works contacts.
Much of the discussion centered on infrastructure and quality-of-life concerns, including road conditions, pothole repairs, overgrown lots, illegal dumping, trash service challenges, street lighting, and drainage issues. City leaders explained the processes for submitting and tracking work orders and clarified how responsibilities are divided among city, county, and state agencies.
Residents also raised concerns about abandoned and burned structures, code enforcement, rental property maintenance, and public safety. City officials outlined ongoing and planned steps to address nuisance properties, including legal processes that allow the city to intervene when property owners fail to maintain their lots.
Animal control and stray dog activity were another significant topic. Officials discussed recent challenges and improvements related to shelter capacity, staffing, and coordination with county partners, noting that additional resources are now in place to respond to higher-priority calls.
Throughout the meeting, city representatives stressed that many issues require time, funding, and prioritization through the budget process, which will be open for public comment later in the year. Councilwoman Tolson encouraged residents to continue submitting concerns, offering solutions, and staying engaged as changes are implemented.
The town hall concluded with city leaders reiterating their commitment to ongoing communication and future meetings, emphasizing that community participation plays a key role in shaping Anniston’s progress.
