Cleburne County, AL – The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office has released details on an ongoing investigation into a recent burglary and identity theft case originating in the Fruithurst area.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators with the agency’s Investigative Division conducted follow-up investigative efforts on Thursday, January 15, 2026, which led them to three separate residences in Clay County, AL. During the course of the investigation, authorities recovered approximately $65,000 in stolen property connected to the Fruithurst burglary, along with additional stolen items believed to be related to cases in Calhoun County.
One suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the burglary. Officials stated that no names are being released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The investigation follows an earlier operation conducted on January 14, 2026, when investigators and deputies were led to a residence off County Road 587 while investigating the burglary. Upon arrival, deputies located stolen property on the premises and secured the scene before obtaining a search warrant for the residence and surrounding property.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators discovered a white male hiding inside a box trailer on the property. Authorities identified the individual as a fugitive out of Cobb County, Georgia, who was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Additional stolen items connected to the burglary were recovered during the search, along with methamphetamine.
As a result, a white male and a white female were taken into custody and arrested on charges related to receiving stolen property and narcotics offenses. Officials noted that additional charges are pending, and the investigation remains active.
The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the assistance of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Lineville Police Department during the investigation.
Officials emphasized that all individuals involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
