Governor Ivey Proposes Strong, Conservative Budgets

MONTGOMERY — Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday directed the Executive Budget Office to transmit her proposed Fiscal Year 2027 General Fund and Education Trust Fund budgets to the Alabama Legislature, marking the beginning of the legislative review process during the final Regular Session of her administration.

In a statement released with the budget submission, Ivey said the proposals reflect her administration’s fiscal priorities and long-term vision for the state.

“As we head into the final Regular Session of my tenure as governor, I am proud to propose strong, conservative budgets that will serve our state well into the future,” Ivey said.

According to the governor, the General Fund budget emphasizes responsible management of taxpayer dollars while making targeted investments in core services, including public safety.

“The General Fund prioritizes responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars while making targeted investments in public safety and other core services that Alabamians rely on every day,” Ivey said. “This will ensure Alabama remains the best state to live, work and raise a family.”

The proposed Education Trust Fund budget would be the largest in Alabama’s history, continuing funding for existing education initiatives while introducing additional priorities.

“I am especially proud that my final Education Trust Fund proposal is the largest ever in our state’s history,” Ivey said. “We will continue making generational investments where they matter most – with our students, teachers and parents.”

The governor said the education budget maintains support for initiatives such as the Literacy and Numeracy Acts, Turnaround Schools initiative, the CHOOSE Act and First Class Pre-K. Additional funding priorities include paid parental leave for teachers, computer science education, enhanced school safety measures and another teacher pay raise.

“Education will continue to be my number one priority over these next 12 months,” Ivey said.

Ivey’s proposed budgets will now be reviewed by lawmakers during the 2026 Regular Session, where legislators may amend the proposals before final approval.
