Anniston Water Works HR Manager Kelli H. Bentley Recognized Among Nation’s Top Public Service Leaders

Anniston, AL – The Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board (AWWSB) has announced that Human Resources Manager Kelli H. Bentley has been selected as one of America’s 250 Public Service Champions through the national Local Gov 250 initiative.

The recognition is part of a nationwide effort led by the National Academy of Public Administration and LocalGov250 to highlight outstanding public servants as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. The initiative focuses on honoring individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to public service and make meaningful contributions within their communities.

Bentley, who joined AWWSB in February 2022, has played a key role in advancing employee development and strengthening internal operations. Her work has included the creation and implementation of training programs, as well as fostering partnerships aimed at supporting the education and professional growth of water and wastewater personnel across the region.

A native of the Calhoun/Cleburne County area, Bentley is a graduate of The Donoho School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia Southern University in 2023 and is currently completing her master’s degree at the same institution. She also holds the Senior Certified Human Resource Professional credential through the Public Sector HR Association.

According to organizers, the 250 Champions initiative drew hundreds of nominations from across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories. Honorees represent a wide range of roles within government, from elected officials and administrators to frontline public service workers. Each recipient was nominated by peers or colleagues and selected based on their demonstrated excellence, leadership, and impact.

James-Christian Blockwood, President and CEO of the National Academy of Public Administration, stated that the honorees reflect the importance of recognizing those who contribute to government operations at every level. Wally Bobkiewicz, a member of the Local Gov 250 selection committee, noted that the initiative highlights the diverse professions that support local government functions nationwide.

Bentley is among several individuals from Alabama included in this year’s list. The honorees are scheduled to be recognized during an event held in conjunction with the ICMA National Conference in Philadelphia on May 12, 2026.
