Ohatchee, AL – The Town of Ohatchee’s newly established Rapid Response Unit (RRU) has reported steady activity and consistent utilization during its initial days of operation, according to a recently released activity report.
The unit officially began service on March 9, 2026, with the goal of providing immediate on-scene assistance during emergencies, particularly in situations where transport ambulance services may experience delays. Since its launch, the RRU has responded to calls both within the town and in the surrounding service area.
During its first 12 calendar days of service, the Rapid Response Unit responded to a total of 14 calls. The unit was actively deployed on nine of those days, averaging approximately 1.56 calls per active day and 1.17 calls per calendar day.
The call distribution remained relatively consistent throughout the reporting period, with multiple days seeing two responses and others reporting single-call activity. The highest call volumes occurred on March 9, 10, 11, 19, and 20, each with two calls recorded.
The Rapid Response Unit is designed to bridge the gap between the onset of an emergency and the arrival of full transport services. By providing early intervention, the unit supports patient stabilization and enhances overall emergency response efficiency within the community.
According to the report, early data suggests the unit is already playing a valuable role in improving access to immediate care during medical and emergency incidents.
While still in its initial phase, the RRU’s consistent call volume indicates a steady demand for rapid-response services in the Ohatchee area. The report concludes that the unit is effectively contributing to local emergency operations and helping strengthen the town’s overall response capabilities.
As the program continues, additional data will likely provide further insight into long-term trends and impact.
