A Plea to Remember the Seniors of Calhoun County

A Plea to Remember the Seniors of Calhoun County

Calhoun County, AL –Arlene Mallard Driskell spoke with the Calhoun Journal about a subject that has been near and dear to her heart since 2016. That subject is senior citizens. Ms. Arleen has personally being working with the residents of Westminster Apartments to collect blankets this holiday season. She will give these blankets away on Friday, December 23rd at 12:00 pm at Westminster Apartments.

Blankets may be her current focus, but it is not her only one. She works with other nursing homes and retirement centers in Calhoun County as well as other non-profits and local food banks. She wants to help make sure that the seniors of Calhoun County are not overlooked. She explained that often it is the small things such as a warm plate of food, a friendly game, someone to talk to, or a small gift like a set of gloves.

She went on to talk about that many seniors are alone and don’t have much contact with family. She stated that, “Seniors are often easy to forget.” Her mission is to remind everyone that they are here and they are worth extra time. “We all know that during the holiday season we can get overwhelmed with tasks and expenses, but one of the greatest gifts we can give is the gift of caring about another human being.” While Ms. Arleen does not requests money be given directly to her she will be more than happy to help provide names of organizations or locations that gifts can be distributed at. For anyone who would like two reach out to her directly her contact information is Arlene Mallard Driskell, Westminster Apartment – 757-818-4508.
