Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the opening of the application process for the 2024 Alabama Safe Schools Initiative Awards. This award program aims to identify and recognize excellence and current trends in school safety across the state. The deadline for applications is Friday, August 16, 2024.
“The safety of our schoolchildren is always at the forefront of our minds and hearts. That is why it is important to highlight and promote the innovative efforts to improve student safety through the Alabama School Safety Initiative,” said Attorney General Steve Marshall. “As we head into the new school year, I look forward to continuing to spotlight the best school safety ideas for school administrators, resource officers, parents, and students.”
The 2024 Alabama Attorney General’s Safe Schools Initiative will include a comprehensive four-phase application and review process designed to evaluate and enhance school safety protocols. The evaluation criteria will cover several aspects:
- Preparation and Training: Assessing the readiness and preparedness of school staff and students.
- Collaboration with Local Emergency Response Agencies: Ensuring effective communication and cooperation with local emergency responders.
- Involvement of School Resource Officers or Alternate Security Personnel: Reviewing the integration and effectiveness of security personnel within schools.
- Structure and Innovation of Safety Technology: Evaluating the use of technology to improve safety measures.
- Community Participation: Encouraging active involvement from the community in school safety efforts.
- Law-related and Prevention Education: Promoting educational programs related to law and safety.
