Anniston, AL – On October 19th the Alabama Extension will host a Successful Aging Initiative Conference for East Alabama at Cane Creek Community Gardens Outdoor Pavilion. The rain-out date is October 26, 2022. Register online at https://www.aces.edu/go/EAST-SAI-REG or call 256-237-1621 Please register by October 10th to ensure lunch, a goodie bag, and more.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University (Alabama Extension at AAMU) delivers educational outreach that addresses issues relevant to aging through the Successful Aging Initiative (SAI). Recognizing that approximately 10,000 Americans turn 65 every day and by the year 2030, the number of Americans 65 years of age and older will comprise 20% of the population (about 1 in 5), SAI customizes educational resources aimed at meeting the needs of seniors as they navigate through older adulthood.

For more than 20 years, Alabama Extension has presented a day of learning and enjoyment through the Successful Aging Initiative Conference. At a time when seniors and their families need it the most, Alabama Extension continues to provide resources to help individuals also traverse life in a world health crisis along with daily demands. Due to rising coronavirus cases, we have shifted to an outdoor conference. Therefore, we ask for your support of the 2022 Successful Aging Initiative Expo on Wednesday, October 19 at Cane Creek Community Gardens- Outdoor Pavilion, 77 Justice Avenue, Anniston, Alabama 36205. An anticipated 100 older adults, caregivers, practitioners, family members, and volunteers are expected to attend. This is a free event for everyone, and lunch will be provided.

They are in need of door prizes and items to put inside goodie bags. Any items that would be useful for senior citizens are greatly appreciated. To guarantee your agency’s information is included on signs and in the Resource Fair publication, please contact Bre Steele. If questions should arise or additional information is needed, contact Bree Steele at 256.294.5409 (business mobile), [email protected] (email), or Calhoun County Extension Office at 256.237.1621.
