Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Driver License Division has received national and international recognition after earning the 2026 American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Service Award for Customer Convenience during the AAMVA Region 2 Conference held this week in Austin, Texas.

ALEA received the award in the category titled “ALEA Cuts Wait Times with Smart Scheduling and Queuing – Regional and International,” recognizing the agency’s efforts to improve customer service through a modernized scheduling and lobby management system aimed at reducing wait times for Alabamians statewide.

The annual AAMVA awards program recognizes excellence among motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies throughout North America. According to ALEA, more than 360 submissions were entered across 23 categories this year, placing Alabama among agencies recognized for innovation, operational excellence and customer service improvements.

In February 2025, ALEA implemented an automated platform that combined appointment scheduling and lobby management into a single system accessible from multiple devices. The agency stated the system has improved efficiency at Driver License Exam Offices across the state while creating a more streamlined process for customers.

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said the recognition reflects the agency’s continued focus on innovation and public service.

“This award is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and forward-thinking approach of ALEA’s Driver License Division,” Taylor said. “Our employees work diligently every day to serve the people of Alabama, and this recognition demonstrates that their efforts are being noticed on a national level. Improving accessibility, efficiency and customer service remains a top priority for ALEA, and I commend the Division for leading the way in modernizing services for our citizens.”

ALEA Department of Public Safety Director Jonathan Archer also praised the Driver License Division employees involved in the initiative.

“This award is a tremendous honor and reflects the hard work and commitment our Driver License Division employees demonstrate every day,” Archer said. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve the customer experience for the citizens we serve, and this recognition highlights the innovative efforts our team has made to reduce wait times and modernize our services. I am incredibly proud of our staff for embracing this system and making it successful across the state.”

Founded in 1933, American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) works with motor vehicle and law enforcement agencies across the United States and Canada, focusing on driver safety, secure identities, vehicle services and public safety initiatives.

ALEA officials said the recognition highlights the agency’s ongoing commitment to providing efficient and customer-focused services for Alabama residents.
