Alabama Power Restores Power to 94% of Customers Impacted by Weekend Storms

Update 94% of Affected Alabama Power Customers Restored

Calhoun County, AL – After severe weather swept across Alabama this past weekend, Alabama Power crews have made remarkable progress in restoring power to affected customers. The storms, which brought high winds, caused significant damage to the electric infrastructure, leaving around 206,000 customers without power.

Despite continued windy conditions and the potential for additional tree falls, Alabama Power crews have worked tirelessly to restore service. As of today, power has been restored to 94% of customers impacted by the storms.

“Thanks to the hard work of our crews and the support of over 1,200 additional linemen and storm resources, we’ve been able to make significant strides in bringing power back online,” said an Alabama Power spokesperson. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we continue our restoration efforts.”

Alabama Power’s outage prevention technology played a vital role, saving more than 30,000 customers from experiencing prolonged outages. Crews began their restoration work immediately after the storms, and by early morning, 57% of affected customers had their power restored. As crews continued their work, the percentage of restored service climbed to 94%.

Although the majority of outages have been addressed, customers are still urged to stay weather-aware as high winds remain a risk. “Please stay away from downed power lines and continue to monitor weather updates,” the company added. “Safety remains our top priority as we work to complete the restoration process.”

The remaining 6% of affected customers are expected to have their service restored safely and as quickly as possible. Alabama Power thanks its customers for their continued patience as crews work to finalize the restoration efforts.
