Montgomery, AL – Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is urging qualified Alabamians to step forward and serve as poll workers for the November 5, 2024 General Election. As essential members of the election administration team, poll workers play a critical role in ensuring that Election Day runs smoothly.
“Poll workers are the backbone of our elections, working tirelessly from sun up to sun down to ensure the process is efficient and secure,” said Secretary Allen. “Serving as a poll worker is a fantastic way to get involved in the election process. I encourage any eligible Alabama voter interested in participating to contact my office or their local probate judge for more information.”
To be eligible, Alabama poll workers must:
- Be registered voters in the county where they wish to serve.
- Be appointed by their county’s appointing board, which consists of the probate judge, sheriff, and circuit clerk.
- Attend mandatory training provided by their county probate judge prior to the election.
Qualified individuals can apply by filling out the poll worker application form, available on the Secretary of State’s website: Poll Worker Application.
Secretary Allen has also launched two recruitment initiatives, Lawyers for Liberty and Heroes at the Polls, to encourage Alabama attorneys and veterans to serve as poll workers.
“As a former probate judge, I know firsthand the importance of poll workers and the challenges in recruiting them,” Allen added. “I’m committed to supporting election officials across the state and ensuring they have the resources to conduct the most secure elections in the nation.”
For more information on becoming a poll worker, contact the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office or your local probate judge.
