Alabama Proves it Works Wes Allen Backs Make Elections Great Again Act

Montgomery, ALWes Allen has voiced support for the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, a federal election reform package sponsored by Bryan Steil (R-Wisconsin), as it advances through the U.S. House of Representatives.

The MEGA Act proposes a nationwide set of election integrity standards modeled after policies currently in place in Alabama. According to supporters, the legislation is intended to strengthen election security and increase voter confidence across all 50 states.

In a statement, Allen said the proposed reforms align closely with measures he has supported and implemented during his tenure as Alabama’s Secretary of State. He added that the bill reflects election policies already enforced in Alabama and expressed support for the U.S. House Republican Conference’s efforts to advance the legislation.

If enacted, the MEGA Act would require all states to adopt several election practices currently used in Alabama, including:

  • Conducting routine voter list maintenance

  • Requiring mail-in ballots to be received by the close of polls on Election Day

  • Mandating the use of paper ballots

  • Prohibiting ballot harvesting

  • Prohibiting ranked-choice voting

  • Prohibiting universal vote-by-mail

Allen noted that Alabama exclusively uses paper ballots and tabulators that are not connected to the internet, and that the state maintains restrictions on absentee voting procedures. He said these measures are designed to ensure elections are conducted in a secure, fair, and transparent manner.

In related legislative action, Jamie Kiel (R-Russellville) has introduced House Bill 67 in the Alabama Legislature. The bill would remove voters’ phone numbers from the publicly available voter list and prohibit the use of voter list information for commercial purposes. Supporters say the legislation could reduce unwanted calls by limiting access to personal contact information obtained through voter records.

Allen has expressed support for the bill, stating it would add another layer of privacy protection for Alabama voters.

Separately, Allen is also encouraging Alabamians to serve as poll workers in the upcoming May 19, 2026, Primary Election. He emphasized the importance of poll workers in administering elections statewide and highlighted the Heroes at the Polls program, which encourages Alabama veterans to serve in these roles.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, poll workers must be registered voters in the county where they serve, be appointed by their county’s probate judge, sheriff, and circuit clerk, and complete required training prior to Election Day.

Qualified individuals interested in becoming poll workers can apply by completing the official application form available at:
