AlaBenton Genealogical Society to Host Annual Summer Workshop at Anniston Library

Anniston, AL – The Anniston Public Library will be the venue for the AlaBenton Genealogical Society’s Annual Summer Workshop on August 3. The event, which will begin at 11:30 a.m., will take place in the Ayers Room.

This year’s workshop will feature Dr. Ronald Fritze, a distinguished scholar who graduated from Cambridge University and is currently the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. Dr. Fritze is an accomplished author with over 92 publications. He will lead three sessions covering a range of historical and genealogical topics:

  • Prince Madoc and the Welsh Indians – An exploration of the legend surrounding Prince Madoc and his supposed voyage to America.
  • The Hernando DeSoto Expedition–Exploration and Tragedy – A detailed look at Hernando DeSoto’s expedition through the American Southeast and its impacts.
  • Researching Your Immigrant Ancestors Across the Pond – Strategies for tracing immigrant ancestors and their origins.

The workshop fee is $25 if paid in advance at the Alabama Room of the Anniston Public Library, or $30 on the day of the event. Payments can also be sent via mail to: AlaBenton Summer Workshop, c/o Alabama Room, Anniston Public Library, 108 East 10th Street, Anniston, AL.

Participants are encouraged to register by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Refreshments will be served, and a selection of genealogy books will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going toward the Annual donation by AlaBenton to the Alabama Room of the Anniston Public Library. AlaBenton is unique in its dedication, as it is the only civic organization that donates all of its yearly fundraising to support the Alabama Room for family and local history research.
