Gadsden, AL – Pressley Slaton, a sophomore at Gadsden State Community College, has been named a Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association following a dominant stretch at the plate for the Lady Cardinals softball team.
Slaton, a native of Alexandria, Alabama, has helped power Gadsden State to a strong start this season, highlighting the continued competitiveness of the program.
Head Softball Coach Ryan Clark praised Slaton’s early-season impact on the team.
“Pressley is an outstanding player and person, and we are extremely proud of her,” Clark said. “She has gotten off to an incredible start and has the potential to be one of the most dangerous hitters in the league. In addition to her impact at the plate, she has also pitched for us and delivered strong performances in the circle. I knew during the recruiting process the kind of difference Pressley could make in our program, and she is already showing that.”
Slaton said the recognition reflects both her preparation and the support she has received since joining the program.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play at Gadsden State,” Slaton said. “I have been blessed to find a program where my emotional, physical and spiritual needs are being met. I have not doubted that I made the right decision. At Gadsden, it feels like a family.”
Slaton, along with fellow student-athletes and members of the coaching staff, was recognized during an athletic recognition event held Feb. 24.
“Gadsden’s faculty and staff have been so helpful with my transition to being a collegiate student-athlete,” Slaton said. “Their commitment has allowed me to balance my academics and athletics as a freshman.”
The early recognition highlights Slaton’s impact both at the plate and in the pitching circle as the Lady Cardinals continue their season.
