Dallas, TX – Huff, Stewart lead six first-team selections for Jax State on the All-Conference USA team.
Six Jax State players were first-team picks on the All-Conference USA football team, the league announced today.
Earning first-team honors on offense were quarterback Tyler Huff, running back Tre Stewart, and linemen Clay Webb and Will O’Steen. The defense was represented by linebacker Reginald Hughes and defensive back Fred Perry.
The league’s coaches selected the team selected by the league’s 10 coaches. Nine of the 10 schools placed at least one player on the first team, with Conference USA champion Jax State producing a league-high six selections, followed by Liberty with four.
Western Kentucky the most combined first and second-team members with nine, followed by Jax State with eight and Liberty with seven. FIU and New Mexico State accounted for six total spots, while Sam Houston State garnered five selections. Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee State and UTEP each earned four spots, and Louisiana Tech rounded out the teams with three honorees.
Huff finished third in Conference USA in rushing at 1,343 yards with 14 touchdowns and added 2,179 yards passing with 13 touchdown passes. The senior accounted for at least one touchdown in 12 of his 13 games and had 100 yards rushing on six occasions and passed for 150 or more on nine occasions.
Stewart was the league’s top rusher with 1,604 yards and 23 touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per touch and 123.4 yards per game. The senior from had three games with more than 200 yards and had a pair of four-touchdown games.
Webb and O’Steen helped clear the way for the conference’s top rushing attack at 267.3 yards per game and a total of 444.4 total yards per game, which also tops the conference. Webb, a senior, is a repeat first-team selection after starting every game at left guard for Jax State. O’Steen, a redshirt junior, started all 13 games at left tackle and was an honorable mention selection last season.
Hughes was second on the team in total tackles with 83 and registered 9.5 for loss with 4.5 sacks. Perry was second in the conference in tackles per game at 8.8, posting a total of 97 in 11 games with nine for loss and three sacks.
Second-Team honors went to defensive end J-Rock Swain and defensive back Geimere Latimer. Swain had a team-best 10 tackles for loss and added 2.5 sacks in his final season with the Gamecocks. Latimer had three interceptions and broke up four passes as a sophomore.
Linebacker Laletia Hale was named honorable mention after making 75 tackles with eight for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
Wide receiver Cam Vaughn, offensive lineman Bubba Grayson, defensive back Zechariah Poyser and kicker Garrison Rippa were named to the all-freshman team.
Vaughn had a team-best 39 catches for 620 yards and four touchdowns. Grayson started seven games at right guard as a true freshman. Poyser had 75 tackles with 2.5 for loss, and three interceptions. Rippa has converted on 14 field goals with a long of 51 and has averaged 59.6 yards per kickoff with 28 touchbacks.
The Gamecocks will close out the 2024 season in the StaffDNA Cure Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 20 at 11 a.m.
