All-state Boys

State champion Jacksonville dominates all-state selections, 5 first-teamers among 10 total all-state selections, Jacksonville’s Morrow 4A Coach of the Year

Remember how the Calhoun County’s Class 3A region dominated the all-state football selections in the fall? It was like that in this year’s Class 4A boys all-state basketball team.

Two players from state champion Jacksonville and one from Anniston grabbed spots on the 4A first team and first-year Jacksonville coach was named Coach of the Year. They were among five Calhoun County first-teamers and 10 county players on the all-state boys teams released Sunday.

Jacksonville juniors John Broom and Cade Phillips and Anniston senior Antonio Kite were 4A first-teamers. Oxford senior Rylan Houck was a 6A first-teamer and Piedmont junior Alex Odam was a 3A first-teamer.

The three finalists for Player of the Year in each classification will be announced Tuesday. The players of the year and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be announced March 31.
