Anniston, AL – American Legion Post 111 invites the community to join in honoring the legacy of the Four Chaplains during a special church service on Sunday, February 2, 2025. The event will take place at Eulation United Methodist Church, located at 401 Westover Road, Anniston, Alabama. The service begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
The Four Chaplains Church Service commemorates the heroic actions of four U.S. Army chaplains—George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, Clark V. Poling, and John P. Washington—who sacrificed their lives to save others during the sinking of the USAT Dorchester in 1943. The chaplains, representing different faiths, gave up their life jackets to soldiers in need and linked arms in prayer as the ship went down.
This interfaith service is a tribute to their selflessness, unity, and unwavering commitment to service above self. The event will include reflections, prayers, and messages celebrating their bravery and the enduring values they represent.
The American Legion Post 111 encourages all members of the community to attend, regardless of background, to honor the Four Chaplains and their legacy of unity and compassion.
For those attending, the service will conclude at 11:30 a.m., followed by a fellowship luncheon, providing an opportunity for attendees to connect and reflect on the day’s significance.
