Montgomery, AL – AmFirst recently announced that four charitable organizations across Central Alabama will be beneficiaries of its Community First Initiative in 2025. The credit union revealed plans to support Garrett’s Place, The WellHouse, Better Basics, and United Way Priority Veteran, continuing its 11-year tradition of funding local organizations that drive meaningful change.
Garrett’s Place assists foster children and their caregivers by providing essential items such as suitcases, clothing, books, toys, and school supplies to ease transitions into foster care. The WellHouse works to rescue and restore victims of human trafficking while raising awareness about exploitation. Better Basics combats illiteracy by delivering reading and math instruction to vulnerable children. United Way Priority Veteran has helped more than 4,000 veterans and their families secure stable housing, focusing on those at risk of homelessness.
“These groups represent a diverse collection of missions, each critical in their own way to our neighbors here in Central Alabama,” said AmFirst President & CEO Kevin Morris. “Our entire staff nominates and votes on these recipients each year; we take a lot of joy in the process and satisfaction in knowing these gifts will effect real change.”
In 2024, Community First recipients received a total of $160,000 to support vulnerable communities. Since 2014, AmFirst has contributed over $1.2 million to local nonprofits through this initiative.
“Looking at the cross-section of people who will be served by Community First this year—children in the foster system, trafficking survivors, young readers, and veterans—I think it’s remarkable how big this impact has grown,” Morris added. “I am proud to lead an institution that makes those members of our community a priority.”
AmFirst, a federally chartered community credit union, operates 21 branches across 13 Alabama counties, serving more than 200,000 members with cost-effective financial services.
