Aron Lackey
Did you know the little lake nestled into the entrance of Buckhorn community from Alexandria-Jacksonville Highway is open to the public? You don’t have to live in the Weaver subdivision to utilize the family-friendly area.
The spring fed man-made lake is teamed with bass, bream, and tilapia, so you’re sure to hook something while fishing off one of the covered piers, or from the seat of your kayak. There are also several chairs and tables available for responsible use that were left over from the outside dining experience Zoe’s on the Lake used to offer.
Most locals refer to this area as Angel Lake, named after Gary Angel who developed this area first. Some have taken to call it Buckhorn Lake as it dawns the entrance to the Buckhorn subdivision. However, truth be told, the little lake doesn’t really have an official name to call its own.
Surrounding the lake is what looks to be about a quarter mile track. Breath in the fresh country air, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, while you get in your steps. Maybe walk the younger patrons over to the play area that is equipped with everything needed for a great time.
All-in-all, if you are a Weaver resident, or even just in the area, and looking for a nice outing with something for everyone in the family, then pack a lunch (and your hand sanitizer) and make your way over to this little gem. Just remember to watch for traffic, clean up your pet waste, and leave it better than you found it, as trash cans are set up for your convenience. Mayor Willis claimed there were no future plans to ever charge the public for use of this beautiful area, “Sometimes the taxpayers’ money is better spent on quality of life.”
