Anniston Arrests Suspected Armed Carjacker

Anniston, AL – On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at approximately 6:15 pm, the Anniston Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Summerall Gate Rd. and General Gerald Watson Way. A blue Honda Accord was observed by officers and a traffic stop was initiated. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, later identified as David Cook (driver) and Heidi Arnell (passenger) it was learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Carroll County, GA. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Anniston Police and the Georgia Investigators advised that approximately eighteen hours before the traffic stop with the occupants, the blue Honda had been stolen by force with a firearm. Cook was listed as the offender of Hijacking a Motor Vehicle in Carroll County. A firearm was not located on either suspect, nor was it located in the vehicle.
During the course of the Anniston investigation officers were also able to locate drug paraphernalia. Cook has been charged with Alabama crimes that include Receiving Stolen Property 1st and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Arnell was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both suspects were transported to the Calhoun County Jail where Cook currently has bonds that equal $21,200 and Arnell has a bond of $3,200.
Anniston Police Chief, Nick Bowles, advised that he was very proud of the Street Crimes Unit for locating this potentially dangerous man. “Our Street Crimes Unit works very hard to remove these dangerous criminals from our streets. I am very proud of them and everyone else that works to protect the citizens of Anniston.”
The Carroll County Sheriff’s office is expected to have warrants against Cook in order to have him extradited back to face additional charges.
