ANNISTON, AL — The City of Anniston announced this week that it has been awarded $578,930 in federal grant funding through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to support continued infrastructure improvements at the Anniston Regional Airport.
According to the city, the funding was awarded through the Fiscal Year 2026 Airport Improvement Program and will help fund part of the final phase of a major drainage infrastructure project at the airport.
The project includes the reconstruction of approximately 2,100 feet of existing drainage pipe that city officials say has reached the end of its useful life. The grant is associated with an Airport Infrastructure Grant that will fund the remaining eligible portion of this phase of construction.
City officials stated the project is intended to help maintain safe and reliable airport drainage systems that support ongoing airport operations.
“Anniston Regional Airport is a vital transportation and economic development asset for our city and region,” said Anniston Mayor Ciara Smith-Roston. “This federal investment allows us to continue improving critical infrastructure that supports long-term safety, reliability, and growth at the airport.”
The City of Anniston also expressed appreciation to the FAA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the office of Tommy Tuberville for their support of the project.
Anniston Regional Airport serves Northeast Alabama and is used for regional transportation access, business development, emergency services, and other economic growth opportunities.
