Anniston, AL – Per Jackson Hodges, Public Relations Director for the City of Anniston, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has existed since 1975 to provide local governments with the resources to develop viable urban communities by providing affordable housing and a suitable living environment, while expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income.
The CDBG Program has strengthened American communities, such as the City of Anniston, by addressing pressing neighborhood and human service needs. It has a significant impact on our local economies through job creation and retention, physical redevelopment, and an improved local tax base.
The City of Anniston, Alabama has effectively administered and customized its Community CDBG Program for twenty years, allowing us to implement various programs and projects in the areas of affordable housing, economic development, public facility improvements, homelessness, and city planning that have contributed to the improvement of the physical and socioeconomic conditions of our city.
Be it known that Anniston City Mayor, Jack Draper, and our city council members, proudly proclaim the week of April 10th through the 14th of 2023 to be COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK. During this time, Mayor Draper encourages all citizens to join us in recognizing Community Development Programs and the important role that they play in our community!
From April 10th through the 14th, the National Community Development Association (NCDA) celebrates the impact that local Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs have in our neighborhoods and cities!
From repairing homes, to building new housing, to assisting with new public facilities, there is much that our CDBG department does! Thus, we invite you to join us in this week-long celebration so you may learn about some of the great things our CDBG team has done in Anniston!
