Anniston, AL – Excitement is in the air as the Cheaha Mushing Club prepares to host the Alabama Dryland Dawg Derby on January 13th and 14th, 2024, at the OneWorld Pet Resort located at 315 Rucker Street, Anniston, Alabama. The event promises two days of high-octane sled dog racing, attracting mushers and spectators alike from across the region.
This prestigious race, sanctioned by the International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS) and accredited by the International Sled Dog Racing Association (ISDRA), guarantees an exhilarating spectacle for all attendees. The race purse is yet to be announced, adding an element of anticipation to the already thrilling event.
Racing aficionados will witness competitors from various regions, showcasing their skills and agility across the dynamic course. The race is open to all classes, including 6-dog rig (6DR), 4-dog rig (4DR), 2-dog bikejor (2DB), 2-dog skijor (2DS), musher cart (MC), and wheeled canicross (WC) on the 2.5-mile course. Additionally, junior classes (JC), 1-dog bikejor (1DB), 1-dog skijor (1DS), and junior wheeled (JW) will navigate the 1.5-mile course.
For those eager to witness the action, the races kick off at 8:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, though start times are subject to change based on weather conditions.
To ensure a smooth and informed event, a mandatory Drivers Update meeting is scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 a.m. at the race site. A virtual driver meeting video will also be posted on the Cheaha Mushing Club Facebook page, emphasizing the importance of watching it for all participants.
Entries for the Alabama Dryland Dawg Derby close on Sunday, December 31st, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. EST. It’s essential to note that no late entries or changes will be accepted after this point. The bib draw, which determines start times, will be held on Monday, January 8th, 2024.
