The city of Anniston announced the 2021 economic growl records and statistics soon Friday the 21st.

City leadership is proud to announce that Anniston saw over $39 million dollars of commercial and residential construction investments in 2021! This is a 73% increase in investments from 2020 and it is one of the highest investment totals in a single year in our city’s history!

These record investment numbers also correlated to strong business license totals for 2021. The City of Anniston issued 449 new business licenses in 2021, and of those 449 there were 248 licenses issued for business and ventures operating within the Anniston corporate city limits and its police jurisdiction (PJ). Our 2021 numbers represent a 61% increase in new business licenses from 2020, they are also the most new business licenses issued in a single year since 2019.

“Data like this shows that Anniston is a business-friendly city, and it shows that we are on the right track economically. Given our affordable permit fees and our tremendous staff in the Building and Safety Division, now is a great time to invest in the Model City! We look forward to continuing to build upon this type of growth as we move through 2022,” stated Anniston Mayor Jack Draper when given the good news.

Lastly, given the subject matter of this press release, city officials would like the public to be aware that our city council recently adopted the 2020 National Electric Code (NFPA 70) and the 2021 Editions of the following codes: International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Existing Building Code, International Fire Code, International Property Maintenance Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code. These new codes will be enforced starting in March of 2022.
