Anniston, AL – In a shocking turn of events, an Anniston Middle School teacher and coach, Joshua Duncan, has resigned following allegations of physically assaulting two middle school students. The incident, which occurred last week, has led to criminal charges being filed against Duncan.
School Superintendent Dr. Ray Hill expressed disappointment in the former educator’s actions, emphasizing the importance of setting an example for students. Hill stated that after receiving information about the physical confrontation, an internal investigation was conducted, resulting in Duncan’s resignation. He also stated that the investigation findings will be forwarded to law enforcement and state educational authorities for further review.
The Student Resource Officer was alerted, initiating an investigation that included video surveillance of the altercation and witness testimony. After statements were obtained from both student victims, their parents signed the warrant for Duncan’s arrest.
According to Anniston Police Sgt. Jason Hawkins, Duncan, 26, is now facing charges of harassment. A warrant has been issued for his arrest based on the allegations that he placed one student in a headlock and pushed another into either a wall or lockers.
The incident unfolded on February 28, as students were returning from lunch. A verbal altercation ensued between Duncan and a female student, escalating into a physical confrontation. Duncan allegedly placed the female student in a headlock or chokehold, and when another student attempted to intervene, Duncan pushed them into a wall or lockers.
