ANNISTON — Anniston Museums and Gardens will host an educational workshop, Introduction to Merlin Bird ID and eBird Apps, on Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the museum campus on Museum Drive in Anniston.
Led by Alabama Audubon Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard, the workshop will provide participants with a hands-on introduction to two of birding’s most popular mobile tools: Merlin Bird ID and eBird.
Lydeard will cover the basics of the Merlin Bird ID App, including how to download bird “packs,” use the field guide features, and apply best practices for identifying birds in the field. The session will also explore eBird’s wide range of tools, from the mobile and online platforms, that allow birders to find target species, discover new birding areas, and view distribution and trend maps.
Organizers note that the program is designed to be useful for both beginning and experienced birders, offering insights that can enhance outdoor birding experiences and improve knowledge of species.
The cost of the program is $5 per person, with free admission for AM&G members. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure space in the session.
