Anniston Police Department Issues Public Safety Reminder After PlayStation 5 Theft

Anniston Assault

Anniston, AL – As the holiday season kicks into full gear, the Anniston Police Department (APD) is urging the community to stay vigilant and take steps to protect themselves and their property during holiday shopping and festivities.

With increased foot traffic and activity in the coming weeks, property crimes often rise as criminals take advantage of unsuspecting victims. APD is offering a series of tips to help residents safeguard their belongings:

  • Lock Your Vehicle: The majority of vehicle-related thefts occur when cars are left unlocked. Always ensure your vehicle is securely locked, even if you’re only stepping away for a short period.
  • Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Never leave valuables in plain sight inside your vehicle. Place them in the trunk or cover them to avoid attracting thieves.
  • Park in Well-Lit Areas: Whenever possible, park in busy, well-lit areas. Criminals are more likely to target vehicles in secluded spots.
  • Stay Alert: Whether you’re arriving at a destination, walking to or from your car, or loading/unloading, always be aware of your surroundings. Criminals often look for moments of distraction or carelessness.

To further highlight the importance of these safety measures, the Anniston Police Department has posted a video showing just how quickly a crime can unfold. On December 11, 2024, a theft occurred in the 1200 block of W 17th St, where a PlayStation 5 was stolen. The case is under investigation, and the APD is seeking assistance from the public.

Anyone with information regarding this theft is encouraged to contact the Investigative Division at 256-240-4000 or via email at [email protected]. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at www.215stop.com or via the Anniston Police Tip Portal at Anniston Police Tip Portal.

The Anniston Police Department reminds everyone that staying aware and prepared can make a significant difference in preventing crime during the busy holiday season.
