Anniston Police Department Receives National Attention

Anniston Police Department recieves national attention

Anniston, AL – The Anniston Police Department has received national attention with their new TikTok channel. On March 25, 2022, Chief Nick Bowles and Investigator Jake Ford, a seven year veteran with the department, released the departments first video.  The inaugural video was lighthearted and funny as Investigator Ford was seen constantly correcting the Chief for his “boomer” like mistakes such as making reference to being on “The TikTok”, and using a filter with soulja boy sunglasses and a baseball cap. Since the release of the video, it has garnered over 365 thousand views from all over the U.S.

The video also grabbed the attention of Fox news, and they contacted the Chief and Investigator Ford for an interview. On Thursday morning they were interviewed by Ainsley Earhardt with Fox & Friends to better explain their mission with the new page and what they hope to achieve. To watch the interview, click here.

The Calhoun County Journal spoke with Chief Bowles to learn more about this new project. The Chief explained that Inv. Jake Ford has a personal TikTok page that has a lot of followers, and his videos have a lot of law enforcement humor and information. The Chief held a meeting about one week ago with other officers and they learned that they too wanted to help to create this project. Chief Bowles said, “We want to have something where we can be both humorous and serious with our messages. We want to use this platform to inform the public that we are human beings too and enjoy the same things many of them do as well.” The Anniston Police Department plans on releasing at least one video per week, but hopes to be able to put out more. “What we are really trying to do here is to get the community more involved with their police department”, stated Chief Bowles. He went on to explain that there has been a lot of negativity towards the law enforcement profession in recent years so they want to work to close that gap and have a more approachable agency.
