Walk a Mile in Her SHoes

Anniston, AL —  The Anniston Police Department and the Anniston Police Foundation stepped out in bold fashion this morning with the return of the annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. At 9:00 a.m., participants—many of them uniformed officers—donned high heels and marched a full mile from the Anniston Police Department to Sinclair Social to raise awareness and support for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of community members who cheered on the brave walkers as they navigated city streets in stilettos and pumps, all for a powerful cause. Proceeds from the event will benefit both the Anniston Police Department and 2nd Chance, Inc., a local nonprofit that provides critical resources and advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Anniston Police Chief Nick Bowles praised the department’s commitment to the cause, saying, “Our guys have a lot of fun putting this event together and it supports a great cause and a great organization. We appreciate all of the support from the community.”

Following the walk, participants and supporters gathered at Sinclair Social for a festive after-party featuring live music, refreshments, and fellowship—a moment to celebrate community solidarity and continue important conversations about ending violence.

2nd Chance, Inc. serves individuals across northeast Alabama by offering emergency shelter, counseling, legal support, and community education programs. Their mission is to foster a safe, informed, and supportive environment for survivors, empowering them to rebuild their lives free from violence.
