Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston is urging residents to brace for a bout of freezing temperatures expected to sweep through the area starting Monday evening. In response to the forecast, a public warming station at The Bridge in Anniston’s First United Methodist Church (1400 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201) will open its doors nightly at 5:00 PM and close in the mornings at 8:00 AM, beginning Monday, December 4, 2023 (12/04/23), and continuing through Thursday, December 7, 2023 (12/07/23). It is important to note that on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 (12/06/23), the shelter will open at 6:00 PM.
For further details regarding the warming station, residents are encouraged to contact the local United Way through their 24/7 helpline by dialing 2-1-1.
Volunteer groups and organizations are urgently needed to assist in meal preparations for both breakfasts and dinners. Those interested in lending a helping hand can sign up through the ‘The Bridge Warming Station’ Facebook Group, or get in touch with Kyle Bryan from the United Way of East Central Alabama at [email protected]. Bryan can also provide information on other volunteer needs and opportunities at the station.
The Warming Station activates when temperatures are projected to dip to 36 degrees or below, taking into consideration various inclement weather conditions, including rain. This initiative is a collaborative effort led by the City of Anniston’s Community Task Force on Homelessness, spearheaded by the United Way of East Central Alabama. The initiative involves cooperation with Anniston First United Methodist Church, Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County, MeMe’s Heart, and His Hands and Feet Ministries.
The City of Anniston encourages community members to stay informed and be vigilant during these cold days, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
