Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston’s Parks & Recreation Department is organizing a special Juneteenth educational field trip for students in grades 5 through 8. Scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024, this trip aims to immerse young learners in the rich history and legacy of the civil rights movement with visits to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and the Birth Home of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Atlanta, GA. The event will kick off at 7:00 AM CT with students departing from the Anniston City Meeting Center, located at 1615 Noble Street. The day-long trip will conclude with a return to the Meeting Center at 6:00 PM CT. Transportation will be provided by a charter bus, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey for all participants.

This educational outing, organized to honor Juneteenth, offers a unique opportunity for students to explore significant historical sites and learn about pivotal moments in the civil rights movement. The National Center for Civil and Human Rights provides interactive exhibits and powerful narratives, while the Birth Home of Martin Luther King, Jr. offers a glimpse into the early life of the iconic leader. The cost of the trip is $10 per student.
