Annual Piedmont Polar Plunge to Make a Splash for a Cause

Piedmont's Polar Bear Plunge

Piedmont, AL – Mayor Bill Baker has announced the return of the Annual Piedmont Polar Plunge, a chilly tradition that not only promises a thrilling experience but also aims to make a difference in the lives of those battling cancer. The event is scheduled to take place at the Piedmont Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 13th, at 10 am.

The daring Polar Plunge invites participants to take a refreshing dip in the icy waters to raise funds for a charitable cause. All proceeds from the event will go to the Venecia Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing aid, support, and comfort to cancer patients and their families.

“We will again be doing the Annual Piedmont Polar Plunge. A crazy way for sure to raise money, but going toward a good cause,” said Mayor Bill Baker. The cost to take the plunge is $10, and the event is open for anyone and everyone to attend. Spectators can enjoy the spectacle free of charge, and donations are appreciated.

The Venecia Foundation, the recipient of the funds raised, operates as an incorporated, 501©(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to brighten the days of those undergoing cancer treatment by offering support, faith, and love to patients and their families. Donations can be mailed directly to Venecia’s Foundation at PO Box 572, Piedmont, AL 36272.

The driving force behind the Annual Piedmont Polar Plunge is Randa Carroll, sister of the late Venecia Butler. Venecia, a resilient individual, faced three separate diagnoses of cancer, each time approaching the challenge with a positive attitude, self-determination, and a sense of humor that deemed the disease “CRAP.”

Venecia credited her triumph over cancer to her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her sense of humor, the support of her family, friends, and the special bond she formed with childhood friends, the YaYa’s. Her inspiring journey serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of community support during challenging times.
