ANNISTON, AL — The Georgia-Alabama Land Trust (GALT) will host its sixth annual Wing Night on Friday, Aug. 7, at Weaver Cave Preserve, offering the public an opportunity to observe one of the region’s largest wildlife spectacles while learning about bat conservation.
The event will take place at Weaver Cave Preserve, 1000 Cave Road in Anniston, which serves as a maternity colony for thousands of endangered gray bats. Each summer, the bats use the cave to raise their young before emerging together at dusk for their nightly search for insects.
The evening will feature refreshments provided by local sponsors, an educational presentation from a local bat expert, and the opportunity to witness thousands of gray bats leave the cave in a synchronized evening flight.
Registration is free, but attendance is limited and advance registration is required. Organizers encourage participants to reserve a spot early. While there is no admission fee, donations are welcome to help support the Georgia-Alabama Land Trust’s mission of protecting natural lands and providing environmental education opportunities.
Chairs and water will be provided for attendees. Parking will be available at Weaver Cave Preserve, with event staff directing traffic upon arrival.
