Ashley Wilson

Anniston, AL – Ashley Wilson, a candidate for Anniston City Council representing Ward 4, welcomed residents and supporters to a meet and greet Thursday evening, offering a deeper look into her background, campaign philosophy, and goals for the city. A lifelong resident of the Anniston area and a special education teacher at Oxford High School, Wilson is running on a platform rooted in service, integrity, and community engagement.

“I’ve seen the challenges and opportunities our community faces, and I’m ready to take action to make Anniston an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” Wilson shared during the event. “This campaign isn’t just about me—it’s about us.”

Grounded in Education and Service

With a decade of experience in the Oxford City School System, Wilson brings an educator’s perspective to the campaign. She holds a degree in Education from Jacksonville State University and master’s degrees in both Special Education and School Psychometry. While she acknowledges that Oxford and Anniston differ in resources, she believes strong leadership and commitment can make a meaningful difference in local schools. Her professional experience, she says, equips her to ask the right questions and contribute productively to improving Anniston’s education system.

Three Core Campaign Pillars

Wilson’s platform centers around three key priorities:

1. Education Excellence – Drawing from her professional experience, Wilson is focused on elevating Anniston’s schools and ensuring all students receive the support they need to succeed.

2. Community First Leadership – Emphasizing transparency and accessibility, Wilson encourages residents to reach out by phone, text, or email. “Sometimes just talking to people makes them feel a lot better,” she noted, stressing the importance of listening and face-to-face communication.

3. Safe and Clean Neighborhoods – Wilson pointed to recent issues with trash collection and public safety, calling for improved communication from city officials and more support for the Anniston Police Department, particularly addressing staffing concerns.

Family, Community, and Authenticity

Wilson is married to Justin Wilson, a local criminal defense attorney with a practice on Noble Street. His family has deep roots in Anniston’s fire service—his mother Donna works at Moore Printing, and his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all served with the Anniston Fire Department for more than 25 years each. Both his grandfather and great-grandfather held the title of assistant fire chief. The couple attends St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and shares their home with two dogs, Kobe and Scout.

During the event, Wilson said she was “shocked and humbled” by the outpouring of support. Her mother, Debra, has been especially enthusiastic, confidently declaring, “We’re going to win this thing.”

Despite the intensity of campaigning, Wilson remains committed to staying true to herself. “I’m gonna be who I am,” she said. She emphasized her commitment to authenticity and personal integrity throughout the campaign, stating that she will “hold myself to the highest of esteems” and run an above-board, transparent campaign.

She also praised the tone of the current election cycle, noting that candidates across the area have largely avoided negative campaigning. “It’s refreshing,” she remarked, “to see people focus on themselves instead of backbiting.”

Bringing People Together

Wilson highlighted her lifelong dedication to community service, from early involvement in church activities to college civic organizations and her ongoing work in education. She and her husband have also opened their home to others in meaningful ways, a reflection of their shared commitment to community care and connection.

“I have a keen ability to bring people to the table that maybe would never have sat down with each other before,” she explained. “If we don’t have buy-in from everyone, we’re not going anywhere.”

Looking Ahead

While she praised the current city council’s progress, Wilson sees herself as someone who can help “keep the needle moving in the right direction.” She is determined to learn before speaking and to focus on facts over assumptions. Her goal is continuity, not disruption.

“I’m not running to build a résumé. I’m running to make a meaningful impact for the people who call this place home,” Wilson said.

As her campaign continues, Wilson is focused on deepening conversations with residents and being fully accessible. She plans to expand her outreach beyond social media and public events, inviting one-on-one discussions over coffee or informal gatherings.

“I am deeply committed to the growth and well-being of our city,” she said. “Let’s work together to move Anniston forward.”
