Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama Members Named Top-Performing US Construction

Birmingham, AL – The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama announced that 28 of its member companies have been named to ABC National’s 2025 Top Performers list. This annual recognition highlights contractor members for outstanding achievements in safety, quality, merit, project excellence, and other industry benchmarks. Rankings are based on the number of hours worked, reflecting the scale and impact of these companies within the industry.

Among the top-performing contractors in specific market sectors, three Alabama-based companies received distinct recognition. BL Harbert International was named the top performer in the government and hospitality sectors, Robins & Morton led in the healthcare sector, and Brasfield & Gorrie was recognized as the top performer in the sports complex sector.

To qualify for the ABC of Alabama Top Performers list, companies must utilize ABC’s STEP Safety Management System, a program designed to help contractors achieve significantly lower incident rates than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average. Additionally, most of the honorees have attained ABC’s Accredited Quality Contractor credential, which acknowledges excellence in various aspects, including safety performance, workforce development, education, diversity, and community engagement.

ABC Board Chairman Tim Harrison of Harrison Construction emphasized the role of competition in the construction industry, stating that fair and open competition fosters innovation and increases value. He praised the top-performing contractors for excelling in safety, education, leadership development, and technology implementation.

The seventh annual ABC Top Performers lists highlight a diverse range of businesses, including women-, veteran-, and minority-owned companies, as well as service-disabled firms and disadvantaged business enterprises. Through programs like STEP and AQC, ABC of Alabama’s Top Performers have demonstrated commitments to financial sustainability, workforce development, and inclusive work environments.

The Top Performers lists identify outstanding companies across various categories, including general contractors, trade contractors, electrical contractors, plumbing/HVAC contractors, and specialty contractors. Rankings are determined based on 2023 work hours reported in 2024 STEP applications. The listings also recognize top-performing companies in 19 market segments, such as airports, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and military projects.

ABC’s 2025 Top Performers list is supported by strategic partners CNA, Milwaukee, and United Rentals.
