Calhoun County, AL – Make it two top-ranked baseball teams from Calhoun County as Alexandria notches to No. 1 in Class 5A in season’s final rankings

Who knew the Calhoun County baseball finalists would end the 2023 season ranked No. 1?

Such is the case after today’s release of the final Alabama Sports Writers Association’s baseball and softball rankings for 2023. Oxford remains No. 1 in Class 6A, a position the Yellow Jackets have held for a month, and Alexandria notched up to No. 1 in Class 5A.

The two teams play in the county final March 15, with Oxford winning 5-1 at Jacksonville State University’s Rudy Abbott Field.

The final rankings come out as the baseball playoffs get started. Some best-of-3 first-round series start today, but most start Friday. Oxford (29-6) plays host to Center Point, and Alexandria (26-5) plays host to Jasper.

Calhoun County has five first-round hosts (area champions): Alexandria, Donoho, Jacksonville, Oxford, Piedmont.
