Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has reported that at approximately 5:57 pm on February 18, 2023, an inmate identified as, Danielle Reynolds, 28, from Attalla, on work release attempted to escape. A correctional officer was escorting a group of female inmates, assigned to the work release program, to transport the garbage to the dumpster for the Anniston facility when one of the inmates began to run from the detail. The correctional officer was unable to pursue due to the other inmates under his control notified his dispatcher of the situation and requested immediate assistance. The Anniston Police Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office immediate responded to the area and initiated a search for the escapee. After approximately one hour of searching an open door at the Sinclair gas station on 10th Street and Gurnee was observed by responding deputies. Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office gained entry into the building and was able to locate the Reynolds hiding in the bathroom and she was taken into custody without incident.
The escapee, Danielle Reynolds, was in the county jail due to a probation violation and was set to serve a 30-day period. Reynolds only had two weeks remaining before she would be released when she made this attempt to escape. Reynolds will be charged with Escape 2nd degree, and Burglary 3rd degree.
Calhoun County Sheriff, Matthew Wade, was proud of his deputies for their rapid response and the quick capture of the escapee. He also thanked the Anniston Police Department for their quick response and assistance with the search of Reynolds.
