Weaver, AL – Weaver wins at Ranburne for second win in as many weeks; Bob Jones wins at Alexandria

Top-ranked Weaver claimed six weight classes, five in a row in the second half of the championship session, to win the Ranburne Bulldog Invitational and its second tournament in as many weeks Saturday.

The Bearcats, who won their own Gene Taylor Memorial last weekend, scored 219 points and beat host Ranburne by 29 points. Ashville was a close third.

Ranburne heavyweight Carson Hall was voted the tournament’s most valuable wrestler. Weaver’s Caden Thornton’s overtime win in the 160 title match was voted match of the meet.

Weaver put nine wrestlers in the finals and had three consolation finals winners. Dalton Fink decisioned teammate Cael Fulmer at 106 to get the Bearcats started. They won consecutive titles at 160, 170, 182, 195 and 220.

The Bearcats on a roll, but coach Andy Fulmer won’t allow his wrestlers to get satisfied.

“Two in a row is nice,” he said. “We are going to keep chopping wood and carrying water – that’s our team motto.”

Otis Weatherly Memorial

Bob Jones scored one title and dominated the consolation finals with eight winners to run away with Alexandria’s Otis Weatherly Memorial Tournament.

Tafari Alcime was the Patriots’ only champion (220), but they won consolation finals in 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 152, 160 and 285.

Alexandria’s Preston Jones won at 120 and Oxford’s Garrett Howell won at 152. The Valley Cubs finished seventh and the Yellow Jackets placed T-9.
