Anniston, AL – The Anniston Museum and Gardens are set to host their 6th Annual Spring Garden Symposium on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Longleaf Event Center. With doors opening at 8:30 am, attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in a day filled with horticultural insights, expert presentations, and opportunities to explore the beautiful surroundings.
In a region where gardening is a year-round passion, the symposium promises to be a celebration of the diverse contributions each season makes to the essence of a garden. This year’s event features a stellar lineup of speakers, workshops, and activities, ensuring a day of inspiration and learning for gardening enthusiasts of all levels.
The keynote speaker for the symposium is Jason Reeves, a distinguished research horticulturalist and curator with the West Tennessee Research and Education Center. His presentation, titled “One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure,” is anticipated to provide fresh perspectives on gardening and leave attendees brimming with new ideas for enhancing their gardens throughout the seasons.
The day kicks off at 8:30 am with doors opening and registrant check-in. The welcome address begins at 9:00 am, followed by a series of engaging presentations:
– 9:15 AM: Dr. Charles C. Mitchell, from the Men’s Camellia Club of Auburn University, will delve into the world of “Camellias in the Winter Garden.”
– 10:00 AM: Bionca Lindsey, owner of BCL Consulting LLC and an Advanced Master Gardener, will educate attendees on the beauty of hostas in her presentation, “Let’s Learn About Hostas.”
– 11:00 AM: Jason Reeves takes the stage for the keynote address, exploring the concept that one person’s trash can be another’s treasure in the gardening realm.
– 1:00 PM: Bethany O’Rear, ACES Agent, will guide attendees on “Creating a Landscape that is Beautiful (and Tasty Too): Adding Edibles to your Garden Design!”
– 2:00 PM: Hayes Jackson, ACES Urban Extension Agent & LBG Liaison, will share insights on “Cool Conifers for Hot Climates.”
During breaks, participants are encouraged to explore the Sensory Garden, visit plant vendors, and peruse the offerings of talented craftspeople. A lunch break at 12:00 pm provides a chance for nourishment and additional shopping opportunities.
