Calhoun County, AL — Longtime jurist and attorney Bud Turner has announced his candidacy for Calhoun County Commissioner, District 2, offering voters a campaign centered on transparency, experience, and strengthening public confidence in local government.

Turner, who spent more than two decades practicing law and nearly 20 years serving as a judge, said his decision to run comes from a desire to use his experience to better serve the community he has called home for much of his life.

“I’ve spent my career listening to people, weighing facts, and making fair decisions,” Turner said. “I believe those same principles are important in county government, and I want to bring that approach to this role.”

A key part of Turner’s vision is making county government more accessible and understandable for residents. He said he believes citizens should feel informed and confident in how decisions are made and how public funds are used.

“I want people to feel comfortable knowing what’s going on in their county,” Turner said. “There are simple ways we can make information more available so people can stay informed without having to go through a complicated process.”

Turner emphasized that improving communication is about building trust and engagement. He supports ideas such as making meetings easier to follow and ensuring that information is clearly presented and readily available to the public.

“There are opportunities to make things more open and easier to access,” he said. “That helps people stay connected to what’s happening in their community.”

Drawing from his years on the bench, Turner said he understands the importance of fairness, balance, and collaboration. He noted that serving as a commissioner requires working alongside others while keeping the needs of the district in focus.

“I’ll always advocate for District 2,” Turner said. “But I also recognize that the commission works as a team, and it’s important to consider the needs of the entire county.”

Turner also expressed respect for those currently serving in local government, noting that his campaign is focused on building upon existing efforts and finding ways to continue moving the county forward.

“There are a lot of good people working hard for this county,” he said. “My goal is to contribute in a positive way and help strengthen what’s already in place.”

With deep roots in Calhoun County and a background that spans law, public service, and community involvement, Turner said he is committed to serving with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.

“At the end of the day, this is about serving people,” Turner said. “I want to help ensure that our county continues to grow and that residents feel confident in the decisions being made on their behalf.”
